Alpaca Socks: The Best choice for a winter sock

One of the best ways of keeping yourself warm during winter time is to cover your feet with winter socks. Shopping for a pair is not that hard, but choosing for the right fabric may give you some dilemma. The fabric that is commonly used to make winter socks is wool. Basically wools come from animals such as sheep, llama, alpaca and any other mammals that produce it. The advantage of wool fabric is that it can keep a person warm. This is why they make winter clothing out of it, including socks.

The Best choice for a winter sock
A pair of alpaca socks is the best choice to buy. Why is it the best choice? An alpaca hair is usually called fleece or fiber rather than wool. Alpaca fleece is naturally soft and warm. It is durable and will keep you itch free. Aside from its warmth texture, it is also strong but lighter compared to sheep’s wool. Due to its natural strength alpaca fiber turned into clothing can last longer compared to other garments made out of other fabrics such as wool. Additionally, fleece from alpaca has a lesser percentage of shrinkage. It is absorbent and can also keep your skin moisture free. Most importantly, alpaca fiber does not contain lanolin which makes it hypoallergenic. In addition to the advantages mentioned above, these socks can be worn not only indoors but also outdoors. Because the fleece weigh lesser it is the best option to wear when working in winter season, having fun like mountain climbing, fishing, camping and more.

Some points to consider in choosing the right pair of winter sock
Purchasing winter socks and not knowing what materials it is made of could result to dissatisfaction. Some winter socks tend to lock in moisture which can result to feet odor. There are other disadvantages of not knowing the fabric of the winter socks you are planning to purchase. The issue is that you may be allergic to that certain fiber. Another concern is that it can make your skin itchy. Another problem you could encounter is that some wool’s texture can cause a prickling sensation. The end of such instances can lead you to not wear that same pair of socks again. An alpaca sock does not cause these kinds of setbacks and it also gives you the assurance that it will keep your feet warm and cozy.

An environmental friendly winter sock
If you are a person concerned about the environment, then fret not. Alpaca socks are environmentally friendly. The reason behind this is that alpaca fiber comes in variety of natural fabric colors, twenty-two in total. Some of these colors are white, beige, and light to dark fawn, dark brown, dark rose grey and more. These natural colors, thus eliminates the use of toxic chemicals such as certain dyes. Furthermore, their wastes are used as fertilizers. You also do not need to worry about alpaca animals because they grow their fiber yearly they are not harmed in anyway.

Alpaca Socks: A special winter socks

Warm and comfortable clothing during winter season is always preferred by majority of consumers. Sweaters and socks made out of wool and other animal fiber such as alpaca are the best choice to get. Garments that are made out of animal’s wool can keep you warm. However, there is also a downside in wearing one. Most of the problem that is being encountered in wearing wool fabric is that it has an inclination that can result in skin itch. Sometimes wool socks are uncomfortable. However, there is an alternative fiber that can keep you warm and will not make you itchy. This fiber comes from alpaca animals. These mammals produces hair called “fiber” or “fleece”. Compared to a cashmere and angora, alpaca fleece are softer. This is why alpaca socks are comfy in contrast to other fabric materials such as sheep’s wool. An alpaca fiber weighs lesser than other fabric. It is lustrous, durable, strong and best of all it is hypo allergenic.

Alpaca fiber texture

The texture of alpaca fibers varies according to their classifications. There are two types of alpaca- the Huacaya alpaca produces a fleece that is dense and water resistant. The Suri Alpaca grows fine and lustrous fibers. Both types can create a warm and cozy pair of alpaca socks. An alpaca hair is resilient and can last longer compared to regular wool fabrics. Aside from its resilience in nature, this fiber does not contain lanolin or grease and it is perfect for individuals who have sensitive skin. Because alpaca animals can produce over twenty natural colors, dyeing the fiber is not always necessary. This makes the material non- toxic or chemical free. In addition to this, alpaca fibers are environmentally friendly and 100 percent organic.

A special winter socks

A pair of alpaca socks will not only keep you warm, it also keeps your feet from moisture. Moisture wicking is a process where in the dampness is carried away from the skin. In most instances wearing socks made out of wool or cotton can make your feet sweaty. The capabilities of an alpaca fiber to wick moisture away is one key to keep your feet from perspiring. Wool or cotton socks can absorb the wetness. However, it does not have the same moisture wicking abilities like the alpaca fiber has. Another great factor about it is that it can still keep you warm even when it’s wet. This is because an alpaca animal’s hair protects them in extreme temperature changes. The same protection applies to humans when their fibers are transformed into garments. It also has the ability to resist solar radiation, which make the fabric cool when worn during summer season. Another fact is that the fiber contains great insulation. It is also preferred by hobbyist such as mountain climbers because of its natural hollow core fiber. Hollow core fibers warm up faster and are ideal to wear outdoors especially in cold temperatures. A 25 meters micron in diameter is what makes a good quality alpaca filament and creates a luxurious, flexible and soft to touch fabric

Benefits of Alpaca Wool vs. Other Natural and Synthetic Fibers

Thermal clothing for winter sports, such as skiing, back-packing, mount climbing, hiking, camping, and hunting is frequently contains synthetic fibers with semi-hollow cores. That’s because hollow core fiber weighs less than the same diameter of solid core fiber, such as wool. Because semi-hollow fiber traps air in its core, the fabric warms up quickly, yet is more lightweight than fabric made from solid-core fiber, such as sheep’s wool. Such thermal winter clothing is highly prized by winter outdoor enthusiasts.

Not only is alpaca fiber semi-hollow, but it is renowned for its wonderful fineness that outmatches many of the micro-fiber synthetics. The fineness of alpaca fiber makes it very soft to the touch. It has no itchiness, such as sheep’s wool. Unlike synthetically engineered micro-fiber, which is frequently made from petroleum; alpaca fiber is produced by living animals. As such, producing alpaca fiber is gentle on the environment.

Alpacas are sheared once a year, like sheep. So you don’t have to slaughter alpacas to harvest their fleece. This makes alpaca fiber production to be a sustainable process. In addition, alpaca manure is a valuable fertilizer by-product that can enrich the soil.

Moisture Wicking

Much of today’s high-end thermal fiber has moisture wicking properties. Wicking and absorbing moisture are different properties. A paper towel absorbs moisture. It keeps taking in moisture until it becomes saturated and is very wet. Wicking is when the fabric transports moisture away from its source to the outside of the fabric, where it is able to evaporate. Because wool and cotton are very absorbent and do not have good wicking properties, many people complain that their feet sweat or feel wet in wool or cotton socks. In addition, winter sweating in clothing made from cotton or wool will make you that much colder. However, alpaca fiber has low moisture absorbency with great wicking properties, resulting in greater comfort and warmth. For example, alpaca socks will keep your feet much warmer than wool socks.

Alpaca Fiber is Hypoallergenic

Unlike wool, alpaca fleece contains no lanolin. So it requires no special chemical and scouring agents to remove fatty lanolin. Many people who are allergic to wool can comfortably wear alpaca fiber next to their skin.

Alpaca fiber typically is about 22 microns in diameter. (There are 25,000 microns in an inch.) Such a fine micron count makes alpaca fiber very soft. The softness of alpaca over wool of the same micron count is due to a scale height of 0.4 micron for alpaca versus 0.8 micron for wool. If you compare an alpaca fiber to a wool fiber under a microscope, the surface of the alpaca fiber will be smooth, but the wool fiber will appear to have scales. The lower scale height of alpaca fiber creates a smoother, slippery feel with a less scratchy surface. The flatter scales on alpaca fiber makes it softer, less itchy than Merino sheep wool of the same fineness.

So when you shop for winter clothing look for luxuriously

News

Google doesn't tend to show itself off. Why would it need to? It's a household name, often synonymous with search, the go-to search engine. Even if Google didn't flood the news on an almost daily basis, at this point, it'd be impossible to ignore its influence. Yet still, Google dug deep into the television advertising gambit on Sunday, airing a heartwarming spot during the be-all, end-all destination for ads: the Super Bowl.

The ad, called “Parisian Love,” aired during the third quarter of the big game. In 53 seconds, “Parisian Love” tells the story of a budding romance that leads to marriage. Even the most cynical viewer had to find something sweet within the clip, which relied on Google searches and cutesy music.

We had some hints that Google would splash its brand around during the Super Bowl, primarily because of a tweet from Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

“Parisian Love” isn't new; it made its debut last November as part of Google's Search Stories campaign, which has a dedicated YouTube channel. The seven stories contained within run along the same vein of reminding us how Google has become a central part of our everyday lives and adventures. (My personal favorite is a hat-tip to literary icon Jack Kerouac, shown below.)

The Search Stories videos likely stemmed from another “Look how awesome we are” promotion that features real-life tales of Google's do-goodery. And frankly, these types of pushes couldn't come at a better time. After the DOJ slammed the Google Books deal, and Google embarked on a sketchy collaboration with the NSA, the company's reputation has skidded downhill. Only time will tell whether the Super Bowl advertisement's effectiveness alters public perception of the search giant.

In the meantime: awwww.
